Your Child's First Visit

A child's first dental visit is an important moment, and making sure it is as enjoyable as possible is our priority. With a friendly team and professional service, we will ensure your child's visit goes as smoothly as possible.

When Should a Child First Start Seeing the Dentist?

Children are susceptible to their own set of serious dental problems, which means it's best to start dental care as early as possible. Ideally, three or four years old is a good time to start. When preparing your child for their first visit, a good place to start is by explaining exactly what's going to happen and to make sure they understand that dentists are here to keep them happy and healthy.

What to Expect

In most cases, a child's first visit will last between 15 and 30 minutes. During this time, the hygienist will examine their mouth to evaluate brushing and flossing habits and offer instructions for how to prevent cavities in the future. Then, the hygienist will clean the child's teeth and provide a fluoride treatment. Finally, the dentist will carefully inspect their mouth once more, looking for cavities and any other dental abnormalities.

Throughout the process, our team is always careful to ensure we are always working within your child's comfort level. All advice and treatment offered are designed with their best interests in mind.

Childrens' Dentistry

A big part of our work with children is easing the anxiety that many of them have about visiting the dentist. That's why we do our best to ensure that every visit to our office not only feels safe, but fun. We understand that a big part of providing quality dental care is building trust, no matter what age the patient is.

Regular dental visits are essential for a child's long-term oral health. When your child makes their next visit, we will not only provide a thorough cleaning and exam, but work to teach them how to maintain good dental hygiene habits each day. Our team will take the time to show your child how to brush and floss properly so that when they are old enough they will have the skills to continue these habits throughout life.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are transparent plastic coatings that are applied to your teeth which are designed to protect them from the bacteria that leads to tooth decay. Both inexpensive and effective, they are a good choice for anyone who wants to keep their teeth healthy and white.

Sealants are generally used on children, however they can also be beneficial to adults who are at risk for tooth decay, such as those with deep grooves in their teeth, or elderly patients with memory issues. If you're wondering whether you might benefit, get in touch with our team for more information.

How Dental Sealants are Applied

The process of applying dental sealants is relatively straightforward. First, we begin by cleaning and drying the teeth thoroughly. Once they are ready, we use a specialized abrasive solution which ensures the sealant will stick properly. Finally, the sealant compound is applied directly to your teeth and cured with UV light so they will last for years to come.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral considered by the American Dental Association to be the single most effective tool for preventing tooth decay. This is because fluoride naturally strengthens and repairs teeth, slowing the decay process caused by bacteria.

At our office fluoride can be applied in a number of ways, but most commonly with a cotton swab that allows us to ensure every surface of your teeth is evenly coated. It takes only a few minutes, and once the process is complete, the fluoride will absorb directly into your teeth, strengthening the enamel.

Benefits of Fluoride Treatment

There's a reason why dentists use fluoride treatments with all their patients. See some of the top benefits of using fluoride here:

Athletic Mouthguards

A mouthguard is a soft plastic device that fits over your teeth and gums to help prevent sports-related injuries. They are especially important for those engaged in high-impact sports like football or martial arts, though any athlete can take advantage of the extra protection they offer.

Store-Bought vs. Custom Mouthguards

While store-bought mouthguards are available, they are generally of a lower quality than custom-made ones and don't conform to the teeth as well. Custom mouthguards are molded specifically to your teeth by our experienced team, taking genetic differences into consideration for a tighter fit and better protection.

Emergency Dental Care
